This entire off season, almost all reports suggested that the 49ers were going to draft a receiver. However, John Lynch had other plans.
The 49ers traded back from the 13th pick to the 14th pick with the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers drafted Tristan Wirfs. The 49ers acquired this pick in a trade with the Colts.
However, it seemed that the 49ers would draft CeeDee Lamb or Jerry Jeudy at this pick, since the Raiders drafted Henry Rugg. They ended up drafting DT Javon Kinlaw out of South Carolina.
Kinlaw is the 2nd best DT prospect in this draft, following Derrick Brown who was taken at #7 by the Carolina Panthers. Kinlaw wanted to go to San Francisco, saying that,”They are a wonderful group of guys.”
Kinlaw overcame so much throughout his life, and had a real underdog story. He grew up on the streets, and was often bullied for wearing the same clothes to school everyday. He committed to a Junior College, and finally received a scholarship from South Carolina. Now, he is a DT for one of the best defenses in the league.
