Fantasy football is a whole new dimension of football. With crazy off seasons like the one we witnessed in 2020, many players move from their teams. This heavily effects fantasy football and their means of production each year. Today, we take a look at five players you should drift away from for this upcoming fantasy football season!
1) RB Le’Veon Bell, NY Jets
From 2013-2017, Bell was one of the best running backs in the league with the Steelers. However, Bell sat out a year after a contract dispute with the Steelers. He ended up signing with the Jets, and it hasn’t been favorable for Le’Veon so far. Bell was unable to reach 800 rushing yards in 2019, and recorded a poor 3 rushing touchdowns. He wasn’t much better on the receiving end, notching a total of 1 TD and 461 yards. Bell has clearly digressed since his off year in 2018, and should be avoided in 2020 fantasy football drafts.
2) WR Jerry Jeudy, Denver Broncos
Jeudy is one of the best rookies coming into the 2020 season. However, it will be hard to trust him in fantasy football. On a team with superstars like Melvin Gordon, Phillip Lindsay, and Courtland Sutton, it will be hard to trust a rookie to shine. Lock is a young and developing QB, and you can bet most of his trust lies in his RBs and Courtland Sutton. In a couple years, Jeudy will be one of the league’s most dominant receivers. Because of how stacked the team is now, you are best to stay away from him.
3) TE Rob Gronkowski, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
In New England, Gronk was one of the most dominant players in the National Football League. I’m not sure I would say the same for the 2020 season. Chris Godwin and Mike Evans have been the centerpieces for this offense for many years, and Gronk will have a tough time becoming the main threat again. After sitting out a year because of his “retirement”, Gronk could come back as another Le’Veon Bell. Gronk is a great TE, and will go down as one of the greatest. However, it’s not the same situation in Tampa Bay. To be quite honest, Gronk is more of a locker room guy than a major threat on the field.
4) QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
#12 for the Packers has been a very reliable fantasy QB since he was drafted. 2020 might be a different story. As great as Davante Adams is, he is becoming less of a threat due to the Packers lack of playmakers. Not only did the Packers draft a QB in the first round, but they drafted ZERO receivers in the draft. This should be a red alert for that front office. Davante Adams will continuously be covered by 2+ players, and no other receivers will be able to support Rodgers as well. You can expect a lot of handoffs to Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams. Unless defenses suddenly decide to leave Adams in 1 on 1 coverage, be careful on drafting Rodgers.
5) RB Marlon Mack, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts drafted Jonathan Taylor with their first pick in the 2020 draft. This is not a good sign for Mack. He had plenty of carries in 2019, but the Colts clearly weren’t happy with his production. Mack is practically useless in the passing game, and his running game took a major hit. Mack is set to be a Free Agent in 2021, and Taylor could very well take over the starting job sooner than later. Barring any injury to Taylor, you can expect to Mack be splitting snaps with Taylor, which is not a good sign.
