Fantasy Football is its own realm of the National Football League. You assemble a full team, hoping that they can provide your team enough points to beat your opponent.
One of the most important positions in fantasy football is the Wide Receivers. Because there are so many receivers in the NFL, wide receivers can be easier to select than positions like running back.
Nevertheless, WRs can make or break your team. Today, I will go over my opinion on the top 5 WRs you should look to draft for the 2020 season (assuming there is one).
1) Michael Thomas
Come on, you can’t tell me you didn’t expect him to be first. Thomas is a monster at the WR position. In 2019, MT led the league in both receptions (149) and receiving yards (1725). His 1,725 receiving yards was the most by any NFL player since Julio Jones is 2015.
Thomas is by far the league’s most dominant receiver on the field and in fantasy football. Thomas had the 6th most fantasy points of any player in the league. MT’s target share could take a hit due to the addition Emmanuel Sanders.
However, there is no reason for him to not perform like the #1 receiver. Defenses should ease up on Thomas now that Emmanuel Sanders is another threat that needs to be covered.
Michael Thomas ADP (Average Draft Position) for 2020 PPR Leagues: 5.3
2) Davante Adams
Davante Adams is the best route runner in football. Adams is unbelievably quick off the line of scrimmage, and can get past almost any DB. His consistency is a main reason he lands so high on this list.
Adams did miss 4 games in 2019, but still managed to compile 997 receiving yards. Adams had 212.7 PPR fantasy points in 2019, a number that is very remarkable for only 12 games.
As the Packers clear-cut #1 target, Davante’s production should go through the roof. With Matt LaFluer’s ability to deceive defenses between the run and pass game, Adams will have a big time year.
Davante Adams ADP (Average Draft Position) for 2020 PPR Leagues: 9.4
3) Tyreek Hill
Tyreek Hill is a Tier 1 WR, but his play style is very different from other big-time receivers such as Hopkins, Jones, and Thomas. Tyreek Hill is not a guy that will have 10+ receptions or multiple 10-15 yard catches. As most of you may know, Tyreek Hill is fast. This is why it’s important in fantasy:
As the fastest player in football, Hill can burn through opposing secondaries, even those as elite as the Chargers. Having Patrick Mahomes, one of the strongest arms the NFL has ever seen, is a major advantage to Tyreek. The second Hill gets through a defense, Mahomes will throw a laser. Multiple times every game. No defense can stop this connection.
Hill missed 4 games in 2019, but was able to total 188.3 PPR fantasy points. He finished with 860 receiving yards and 7 TDs. Now that Hill is fully recovered, he should have a fun time in Kansas City.
Tyreek Hill ADP (Average Draft Position) for 2020 PPR Leagues: 13
4) Julio Jones
How can you not have Julio as a top 5 receiver? Arguably the most dominant receiver of the past decade has torn up the league since Day 1. Julio was the 2nd best WR in 2019, having 274.1 fantasy points. He had 1,394 yards and 6 TDs. The crazy part?? Some analysts claimed this was a bad year for Julio.
Jones does now play alongside rising star Calvin Ridley, and this will definitely limit his production. In fact, he probably would’ve been higher if it weren’t for Ridley, who had 7 TDs in 2019. Nevertheless, Julio is the undisputable WR 1 for Atlanta, and should be drafted in the first round of most leagues.
Julio is one of the greatest fantasy WRs the league has ever seen. Age is slowly catching up to him, but his signs of slowing down are not severe. Expect a big year from Julio Jones, especially if Matt Ryan comes to play.
Julio Jones ADP (Average Draft Position) for 2020 PPR Leagues: 14.6
5) Chris Godwin
Godwin is a risky fantasy pick, but his reward is through the roof. Godwin is obviously a very talented receiver, but his targets take a HUGE hit with Mike Evans alongside him.
In 2019, Godwin had 86 catches, 1,333 yards, and 9 TDs. Those are outstanding numbers for a young receiver playing with veteran Mike Evans. The question now is if he can consistently produce these numbers.
With Tom Brady at QB, you can expect a lot more catchable passes. Bruce Arians throws the ball more than almost every coach in the league. This is a positive for Godwin. Chris Godwin is a gamble, but he will be a fantasy team saver if he develops a good connection with Tom Brady.
Chris Godwin ADP (Average Draft Position) for 2020 PPR Leagues: 21.4
