Post 1st Round Draft Grades

Arizona Cardinals: A+

Draft Pick: Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons (#8 overall)

The Cardinals just picked the best player on the board here. The Giants and Panthers surprisingly passed on Simmons, allowing the Cardinals to get one of the best players in the draft. He is freakishly athletic and will be a game changer.

Atlanta Falcons: B-

Draft Pick: Clemson DB A.J. Terrell (#16 overall)

A.J. Terrell is a risky pick for the Falcons. He struggled a bit last year, especially in the National Championship against LSU. However, he was well coached in Clemson and can step up his game. After getting rid of Desmond Trufant, they needed a new DB, but I’m not sure Terrell was the best pick at 16.

Baltimore Ravens: A

Draft Pick: LSU LB Patrick Queen (#28 overall)

The Ravens were able to get one of the better LBs in the draft even with the 28th pick. Suprisingly for the Ravens, the Saints drafted an offensive linemen, allowing them to draft Queen who will surely start week 1 for the Ravens. Very good value for the 28th pick.

Carolina Panthers: A

Draft Pick: Auburn DT Derrick Brown (#7 overall)

The Panthers get the best defensive tackle in the draft to help their terrible defensive line. Some may argue that they should’ve taken Simmons, but Brown can be just as helpful to Carolina

Cincinnati Bengals: A

Draft Pick: LSU QB Joe Burrow (#1 overall)

This pick wasn’t a shocker to anybody. The Ohio product will be extremely welcomed in Cincinnati, and the Bengals have possibly found their long-term and franchise QB. Accompanied with Joe Mixon and A.J. Green, Burrow could have a great rookie year.

Cleveland Browns: A+

Draft Pick: Alabama OT Jedrick Willis (#10 overall)

I am a big fan of Jedrick Willis. He is very quick compared to other linemen, and will play at any position. He had a very impressive career, and is the most ready NFL OT.

Dallas Cowboys: A-

Draft Pick: Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb (#17 overall)

CeeDee Lamb is the best WR in this draft class. It is shocking to me that he even fell to the 2nd half of the first round. If a team that is in need of a WR picked Lamb, he would be higher on the list. However, the Cowboys already have Cooper and Gallup. Lamb is a good addition, but doesn’t fill a major hole.

Denver Broncos: A

Draft Pick: Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy (#15 overall)

The Broncos needed more weapons on offense for their new QB Drew Lock. Jeudy and his route running will pair perfcetly with both Lock and Sutton. Jeudy will do well in his time with Denver, and is one of the best fits.

Detroit Lions: A+

Draft Pick: Ohio State DB Jeff Okudah (#3 overall)

Okudah is the best coverage defender in the draft. He is fast, can recover quickly, and doesn’t get called for flags very often. After trading Slay, the Lions needed a DB to replace him, and Okudah is a great replacement who might prove to be better.

Green Bay Packers: A-

Draft Pick: Utah State QB Jordan Love (#26 overall)

The Packers are clearly high on Love, as they traded up to draft him. This was a bit shocking to me, as Rodgers is not showing signs he wants to retire soon. However, if Rodgers ever gets hurt, they have a great replacement in Jordan Love. He is underrated, and deserves to be a 1st round selection

Jacksonville Jaguars: A

Draft Pick: Florida DB C.J. Henderson (#9 overall)

After losing Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye in a matter of years, the Jaguars needed a replacement at CB. Henderson drove up his draft stock recently as teams started to notice how good he was. Henderson is an All-Pro CB that will be a nightmare for WRs.

Kansas City Chiefs: B

Draft Pick: LSU RB Clyde Edwards- Helaire (#32 overall)

I didn’t like this pick by the Chiefs. Edwards is a great RB, but with Swift and Taylor on the board, it’s hard to believe he is the only RB taken in the 1st round. He has potential for the NFL, but it is a risky pick for KC. However, another play-maker for Mahomes makes the Chiefs even scarier.

Las Vegas Raiders: C

Draft Picks: Alabama WR Henry Ruggs (#12 overall), Ohio State CB Damon Arnette (#19 overall)

The Raiders had a rough draft. Let’s start off with Ruggs. Ruggs is a speedy player that has potential in the NFL. However, with every receiver on the board at pick 12, I think both Lamb and Jeudy were better picks. Ruggs is a good receiver, but Lamb and Jeudy have proven to be more lethal.

Damon Arnette was a shocker. There were next to 0 mock drafts that had him going in the first round. He played in the shadow of Okudah in OSU, which may be a reason for that. Now that he will be possibly the CB 1, he has a lot to live up to.

Los Angeles Chargers: A

Draft Pick: Oregon QB Justin Herbert (#6 overall)

Herbert is an absolute stud. He took a roster that was not as good as those of teams like Alabama and LSU, and barely missed the CFP with a 12-2 record. Hebert will have a year to develop behind Tyrod Taylor, and will be better than ever when it comes time for him to start

Miami Dolphins: A+

Draft Picks: Alabama QB Tua Tagovaiola (#5 overall), USC OT Austin Jackson (#18 overall), Auburn CB Noah Igbinoghene (#30 overall)

The Dolphins tried to trade up for Burrow many times according to reports, but the Bengals were unwilling to. The Dolphins decided to take Tua with the 5th. We are all aware of what Tua is capable of, but the question remains about his health. If he is at 100%, he will surely be at the top of the race for ROY.

Austin Jackson was one of the best picks for the Dolphins at 18. They draft a franchise OT to protect Tua. Protecting young QBs has become a lot more important as we see players like Cam Newton and Andrew Luck severely struggle because of it. This is a safe pick and a very valuable pick.

The Dolphins traded out from their 26th pick, and acquired the 30th pick in a trade with the Packers. They drafted Noah Igbinoghene, who is a very talented corner. He has been compared to some top level corners like Darius Slay, and will develop really well from his new teammate Byron Jones.

Minnesota Vikings: A

Draft Picks: LSU WR Justin Jefferson (#21 overall), TCU CB Jeff Gladney (#31 overall)

After trading away Stefon Diggs, the Vikings were in dire need of a WR2. Luckily for them, the Eagles drafted Jalen Reagor, landing the Vikings Justin Jefferson. Jefferson was an absolute beast at LSU, and will be a hard task for opposing DBs alongside Adam Thielen.

The Vikings got an absolute steal with this pick. Gladney is one of the best DBs in the draft, and they were able to trade back, and acquire another later round pick. Gladney will be extremely important after the loss of Trae Waynes

New Orleans Saints: A-

Draft Pick: Michigan C Cesar Ruiz (#24 overall)

With Ruiz still on the board here, it was hard for the Saints to pass on him. He is a solid interior linemen that will protect Drew Brees. He can play at any position, and will be an immediate starter for NO.

New York Giants: A

Draft Pick: Georgia OT Andrew Thomas (#4 overall)

Dave Gettleman does it again! He takes another shocking early pick which puts many fans in doubt. Andrew Thomas is a great tackle, but needs to work on his technique. However, I think the Giants should have taken Simmons here. It would have filled a hole much bigger, especially since the LB in this draft are limited. If I were NY, I would have drafted Simmons and traded for Cesar Ruiz in the first round.

New York Jets: A

Draft Pick: Louisville OT Mekhi Becton (#11 overall)

Mekhi Becton is probably the strongest player in the draft with insane athleticism. The Jets finally found their long term offensive linemen to protect Sam Darnold, which will help the Jets a lot in the long run.

Philadelphia Eagles: B+

Draft Pick: TCU WR Jalen Reagor (#21 overall)

Reagor’s competitiveness and speed will help him be a great receiver. Even though he is a great player, I don’t think it was great value. If the Eagles had taken Justin Jefferson, the grade would have been much higher. Nevertheless, any WR can help the Eagles, and Reagor should have a great year.

San Francisco 49ers: A-

Draft Pick: South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw (#14 overall), Arizona State WR Brandon Aiyuk (#25 overall)

The 49ers acquired their 13th pick in a trade with the Colts involving DeForest Buckner. Then, the Buccaneers traded for the 13th pick, and the 49ers acquired the 14th pick. Here, they drafted the 2nd best DT Javon Kinlaw. Kinlaw has had a great story growing up, and has a lot to play for. With his addition, the 49ers entire defensive line consists of first rounderrs.

Once again, the 49ers traded for this pick, but this time they traded up. They traded for the 25th pick with the Vikings. They drafted their needed WR in Aiyuk. Aiyuk is a very underrated receiver, who caught 1192 yards last season along with 8 TDs in 2019. He is a very good player that will be a key piece to the 49ers offense in 2020.

Seattle Seahawks: B+

Draft Pick: Texas Tech LB Jordyn Brooks (#27 overall)

Many thought that the Seahawks would trade out of this pick, but they didn’t decide to. They drafted Brooks, who is a very good LB whose draft stock lowered due to a shoulder injury. Brooks is the game changer the Seahawks have been looking for.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: A

Draft Pick: Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs (#13 overall)

This was a dream scenario for the Buccaneers. After acquiring Tom Brady, they needed an OT that can protect Brady. Wirfs is one of the best prospects from this draft, and had a great combine. For the 13th pick, Wirfs is great value who will demonstrate his excellence on and off the field.

Tennessee Titans: B+

Draft Pick: Georgia OT Isaiah Wilson (#29 overall)

Some may not be as high on Wilson, but his name has been hard to notice. With Andrew Thomas opposite of him, Thomas took most of the attention. However, Wilson is still a great player. The Titans needed a new OT opposite Taylor Lewan, and Wilson will have the task of protecting Ryan Tannenhill. Wilson is a coachable player that should improve a lot this year.

Washington Redskins: A+

Draft Pick: Ohio State EDGE Chase Young (#2 overall)

Chase Young is by far the best edge rusher in this draft class. His phsyciality and ability to get by strong offensive linemen is unreal. The Redskins find the dominant, game-changing defensive player they need to win games. Watch out for Chase Young, as he is capable of winning not only DROY, but Defensive Player of the Year
