As we celebrate the great holiday of Father’s Day this month, I present to you the greatest Father-Son duos to play in the NFL.
There are an enormous amount of NFL fathers that played in the old age, and have sons that play in the NFL today. Now, let us examine the best of those in honor of the great Father’s Day!
P.S. in the names, the father is first and the son is second
Archie and Peyton/Eli Manning
Undoubtedly one of the best families to play in the National Football League is the Manning family. Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning have proved to be elite QBs in their time of the NFL, and they will have a long lasting legacy as NFL stars.
Archie Manning, the two-time Pro Bowler, threw 23,911 yards and 125 TDs in the league.
Peyton Manning on the other hand, was one of the greatest to touch foot on the football field. The 5x MVP and 2x Super Bowl winner threw 539 TDs and 71,940 in his outstanding career.
Eli Manning also had 2 Super Bowl wins, and is famously known for beating the great Tom Brady two times.
Ed and Christian McCaffrey
Anyone who watches the NFL today knows who Christian McCaffrey is. However, his father, Ed McCaffrey, was a very good TE for the Denver Broncos.
In his career, Ed McCaffrey recorded over 7,000 receiving yards accompanied with 55 Touchdowns. The majority of his career was with Denver, but he was also a crucial piece to both the Giants and 49ers.
His son, Christian McCaffrey, is the NFL’s next sensation. In 2019, CMC became just the 3rd RB to record 1,000 receiving and rushing yards. He was both the Flex and starting RB on the All-Pro Team.
Outside of Ed and Christian, the McCaffrey family has a long list of athletes. Lisa McCaffrey, Christian’s mother, was a star soccer player at Stanford University. Christian McCaffrey also has 3 brothers, a Michigan QB, a Nebraska QB, and a former WR!
Howie and Chris/Kyle Long
Howie Long is a great NFL analyst, but he had a very successful career as a player in the NFL. He was an 8-time Pro Bowler for the Los Angeles Raiders and had 84 sacks in his career. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
Howie’s son, Chris Long, is a defensive superstar like his father. He recorded 70 sacks in 11 years with the St. Louis Rams, New England Patriots, and Philadelphia Eagles. He is a 2x Super Bowl winner.
Howie’s other son is Kyle Long, another successful NFL player. Kyle has been a member of the Chicago Bears since 2013, and is a 3x Pro Bowler.
Clay Matthews Jr. and Clay Matthews III
The Matthew’s family has incredible football genes. Clay Matthews Jr. was a 4x Pro Bowler that spent the majority of his career with the Cleveland Browns. He had 69.5 sacks in 278 games.
His phenomenal son, Clay Matthews III, is a 6x Pro Bowler that won a Super Bowl in Green Bay. He is the Packer’s All-Time sack leader, a very prestigious award for such a great franchise.
Clay Matthews III spent the 2019 season with the Los Angeles Rams, recording 8 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
